Taking control of urban regeneration

Our capabilities had previously been tried and tested on projects in the north of the city, so it was with complete confidence that Manchester City Council commissioned us to complete works in the Moss Side initiative area.

Operations got underway with full group repair schemes to a number of blocks. Not only did we give a technical appraisal of the blocks under construction, including full survey, design and supervision of works, but also helped in taking a strategic approach to the refurbishment of the area.

Additional assistance was also provided with schedules, drawings and site supervision for internal refurbishment grants.

Projects ranged in size, from £30,000 up to £1.1million, with works being completed in a rolling programme from 1996.

In the latter stages face-lift schemes involving works to front elevations took precedence, enhancing and unifying the appearance of the whole neighbourhood.

Within a 6 year period over 220 properties were revitalised, with an expenditure of just short of £4 million.

Streets include Princes Parkway, Claremont Road, Cathorpe Street, Cowesby Street, Great Western Street, Broadfield Road, Beveridge Street and Hartington Street.
